NUCLEUS:
A central or
fundamental part or thing around which others are grouped; core.
Something
regarded as a basis for future development and growth; a kernel
New York
City is the birthplace for fine art and cultural venues. Today the City has the
foremost museums and leading galleries and hosts numerous cultural events. Artists
that have emerged from the greatest city in the world have gone on to gain international,
museum-level recognition, attracting collectors from around the world.
To pay
homage to New York City–based artists, our upcoming exhibition -
New
York: The Nucleus (May 1–7, 2012) will feature major artists presenting a collective collaboration including
mural painting in
interaction with a wide range of new works, exclusively produced for the event.
This blend
of accomplished NYC talent, this elite group of five living legends Crash, Daze
& the 3 originators of TATS CRU, BIO, BG183, NICER aka “the
mural kings” will join forces at the Marianne Nems Gallery in the LES
(Lower East Side), conceiving, studying, developing and executing in sync one
body of work. Together, the five accomplished artists will bring forth a total
of thirty new works. All five artists
boast unique resumes and unparalleled style.
New York:
The Nucleus will provide a combination of street art and gallery exhibition
in mutual, consistent interaction, like metal to the magnet.
We are now
in an era where mural paintings interact in a straight line with fine art—a coalescence
in cultural expression.
New York: The Nucleus will be an indoor and outdoor art
event running alongside the New York City edition of Frieze and PULSE Art Fairs.
Mural Painting in the 21st Century
Mural
painting has evolved over the last three decades to be recognized for its
artistry and technical skill. Collectives have now incorporated themselves and accepted
commissions to paint walls for major organizations used as wall advertising.
The lucky ones such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Daze, and Crash have
their works displayed in museums, and in private collection.
The great collector Tony Goldman made a major impact in 2009 with Wynwood Walls, inviting major NY muralists and street artists to transform the warehouse district of Wynwood, Florida, near Miami. And in 2010, Cirque du Soleil invited NY artists yet again to produce murals in Wynwood for the SAFEWALLS project. (The term “safe walls” refers to legal spots in the urban landscape for local muralists to do their work without fear of sanctions.)

This is proof that mural painting and
graffiti art is established as the 21st century art movement.
The first opening of the reputable
Frieze Art Fair is the perfect time for our project. NYC is scheduled to turn
into an art platform crammed with press, media, international curators, art
galleries and collectors.
It’s the ideal time and place, for New York
Legendary Graffiti Artists: CRASH, DAZE, BIO, BG183 & NICER to step forward and be celebrated for
their 30 years of hardship, and leadership in mural painting.
New York City as the nucleus of art and
culture will show where its heart beats.
Greetings & welcome to our blog,As a curator and a gallery owner based in NYC with a global curriculum, I mainly collaborate with accomplished and emerging Graffiti & Street Artists. In 2012 my gallery will carry on its mission focusing on art exhibitions where Mural Painting interacts in straight line with fine art.The main idea in “New York: the Nucleus” is to honor this accomplished form of art, pay homage to its originators on their own turf; where, once again, the first city in the world is being acknowledged for its artistic influence.Museum like art exhibition “New York: The Nucleus” will run alongside the New York City edition of Frieze and PULSE Art Fairs.
My program of course, begins where it started 4 decades ago. "New York: The Nucleus 2012" will make history, and return a huge favor to the originators of this movement for what they‘ve created - and genuinely offered to the art world. For almost 40 years, they’ve carried the flame in spites of critic and adversity.Today it’s definitely a path many emerging and upcoming artists will pursue as Graffiti is established as the 21st century art movement!
“New York: the Nucleus” is conceived to become an annual event. This leading group of artists with Crash, Daze, BIO, BG183 & NICER; is scheduled to expand and tour the globe in 2012.
The exhibition will remain open for 4 consecutive weeks with guided tours twice a day for all public, schools and universities to enjoy. All featured works will be for sale. 5% of sales revenue will be donated to "Autism Speaks", "Hi ART", "NYCartscypher"
